Neuro-Linguistic Programming or NLP is how we understand and utilise human communication, behaviour and experiences to achieve a specific outcome. It provides a method of increasing our awareness and developing our understanding of the nervous system and learning how to manage it to achieve the absolute maximum potential.
NLP is the art and science of excellence, derived from studying how elite people in different fields obtain their outstanding results. These communication skills can be learned by anyone to improve their effectiveness both personally and professionally. It is directly applicable to a diverse spectrum of fields such as communications, business, sales, education and therapy.
NLP was created by Richard Bandler (a mathematician) and John Grinder (a linguist).
Bandler and Grinder modelled the language, physiology and mental processes of outstanding therapists Fritz Perls (Gestalt therapy), Virginia Satir (Family therapy) and Dr Milton Erickson (world-renowned psychotherapist and hypnotherapist) along with other world-famous people who consistently produced outstanding results. These models of excellence provided the basis of the patterns of excellence that can be explicitly taught as NLP.
Neuro-Linguistic Programming has since evolved, not only into an incredibly powerful set of techniques for achieving human excellence in both business and personal development but also as a philosophy and attitude that is essential for anyone whose goal is one of excellence.

The best explanation I have of NLP, however, was described best by its co-founder: Dr Richard Bandler when he says:
“The reason for my life’s work is twofold. I wanted to give people freedom and make people smarter”
For me, my experience is that I have become vastly smarter since exploring the ‘hallucination of NLP’ and that I have achieved many freedoms.
I am free from feeling bad most of the time. I am free from the limitations imposed on me by my past beliefs. I am free from intimidation from anyone. I am free from any irrational fears. I am free from letting my circumstances control how I feel. I am free from the prison of life living me instead of me living it.
I am smarter in the way I approach problems and find solutions. I am smarter in where I focus my time and energy. I am smarter in considering my beliefs and how they help me. I am smarter in the way I communicate, understand and interact with other people. I am smarter in my approach to the stresses and strains of life. I am smarter in my thinking about the world, about life. I am smarter in my ability to learn and enjoy the wonder and delight the world brings.
